December 31, 2013 ---- The sky was overcast and it was a chilly temperature day at Natchitoches with the official National Weather Service high temperature of 44 degrees and the lowest temperature at Natchitoches today was 34 degrees.   A NE wind prevailed today and no precipitation was observed.  Clouds streamed in overhead from SW to NE today from South Texas across northern Louisiana, including Natchitoches.  Here's the official data numbers for the City of Natchitoches, La. from the National Weather Service:

Hurricane Rita during late September.  High winds toppled trees across the City of Natchitoches.  Barometeric pressure drops to 29.21" (NWS recorded) at Natchitoches.  Rita tracked on western side of Toledo Bend Reserv.

Hurricane Katrina in August.  Little to no effects here in Natchitoches from Katrina but a massive flood at New Orleans.

Severe to strong thunderstorms at Natchioches and a Marco, La. (southern Natchitoches Parish, La.) EF-4 tornado strike; the tornado crossed I-49 in the vicinity of Marco, La. and would damaged mobile homes on a hilltop at Marco, La.

Searing heatwave during late August & early September comparable to the Heatwave of 1936; temperatures at 109 to 110 degrees at Natchitoches.

Very rare snowfall event on January 1, 2001 (Dec. 31, 1999, New Year's Eve -Jan. 1, 2000, New Year's Day).  The official NWS snow amount for this event was one (1) inch.

Severe hailstorm at Natchitoches. Swath of damage occurs on La. Hwy. 1 South (now South Drive Jan. 2014) near Kentucky Fried Chicken resturant and at downtown Natchitoches.  Golfball size hail dents vehicles and damages roofs.  The hail storm struck about 3:15 p.m.

December single digit(s) temperature readings at Natchitoches; single digits on Christmas Day 1983; Ice cubes flow on Red River passed Grand Ecore, La. and Alexandria, La.

Six (6) inch snowfall event at Natchitoches in January.

1974

EF-4 tornado strikes Breda Town area of Natchitoches; tornado damage occurs to then Mayor Joe Sampite's house and roof damage at St. Mary's School. Air planes at Natchitoches Regional Airport were flipped over and damaged on March 20th.

Natchitoches Christmas Festival 5:00 p.m. temperature was 37 degrees. A chilly rain had occurred most of the afternoon.

Dec. 30, 2013 ---- A cold front passage occurred today with the morning sky being overcast or cloudy.  A N/NW wind prevailed today.  It was 41.6 degrees and an overcast sky observed at 1:38 p.m. CST today.  Late morning and early afternoon temperatures remained in the chilly 40s. The sky remained overcast during the day and evening through 11:59 p.m. CST. The official National Weather Service high temperature for the City of Natchitoches since 8:00 AM CST today is 42.7 degrees. At 4:46 PM CST, the temperature is 41.0 degrees.  The official NWS temperature at Natchitoches, La.  was 40.9°F, overcast sky at 5:00 p.m. CST;  the temperature was 38.4°F, overcast sky at 9:41 p.m. CST.  The wind was from the NNW (330 degrees) at 6 MPH (5 KT), and the barometeric pressure (altimeter) at 30.38 in. Dec. 29, 2013 --- A cloudy to mostly cloudy day at Natchitoches.  Mostly high clouds were observed.  A cold front was approaching the Dallas, Texas from the north at 12 PM CST.  The cold front had passed through Shreveport, La. by 9 PM CST, with a gusty 22 m.p.h. wind from the NW, while the wind speed at Natchitoches was calm or within a speed of 1-5 m.p.h.  No precipitation occurred today.  The wind prevailed from the S/SE today.

December 24, 2013 ---- The sky was clear above for the early morning hours until 9:00 AM CST.  Clouds were observed to the S & ESE sky during the 7 a.m. CST hour.  A heavy ground frost occurred this morning.   Increasing cloudiness continued during the 9 a.m. CST for the sky to be partly cloudy at 9:18 a.m. CST.  At 11 a.m. CST, the temperature was 40.9 degrees, sky was partly sunny,  wind was from the SE (140 degrees) at 5 MPH (4 KT) and barometeric pressure (altimeter) at 30.42 in.
